When we started a nanny share with another family, we didn't realize how many benefits there'd be. The nanny share built my son's resilience and communication, and luckily, we had an experienced nanny who brought patience and problem-solving to the table. Even though they were young, the boys would request more and more playdates together outside the nanny share days. AdvertisementThe two families have become very close since starting a nanny share. Last year, I paid $50,000 to go on a four-month cruise that took my family and me to 30 countries. I see the money spent as an investment — not just in travel, but in a collection of memories that we will treasure forever. "Our room for four months months on the cruise, with our balcony view." Photo: Michelle Schroeder-GardnerI bonded with my family in a unique wayAfter our daughter was born, the idea of a world cruise piqued our interest. From that moment on, we became childhood best friends, and now we are trying to rekindle that friendship in college. We loved to be in the spotlight, dancing ballet in "The Nutcracker" every year — making sure we knew all the parts. We were navigating the end of middle and beginning of high school without each other — a pivotal moment of development, and our lives didn't align. We are now getting a second chance at friendshipI graduated from high school during the start of the pandemic in 2020 when Rebecca was still a junior. CNN —When it comes to a mom’s mental health, grandparents are a big deal, according to a new study. The connection between access to grandparents’ help and lower use of antidepressants was especially strong in mothers who were separated from their partners, the study said. “Grandparents are an important source of support to families with children, and support from others is well-known to protect individuals from depression,” Metsä-Simola said via email. There were instances when grandparents might have a negative impact on the mother’s health. While such support may come from grandparents, families who don’t have that help aren’t at a loss, she said.

Watching my husband parent his two young kids very differently from the way I parented my older two has been both eye-opening and confronting. AdvertisementI know I'm doing more than my husband would, but I can't seem to help myself. But when I watched my husband with his kids, my parenting started to look more and more like hovering. I could have eased up and trusted her to do a bit more herself, as my husband does with his kids. He trusts them to figure things outIt's not that my husband leaves his kids to their own devices.

Although I've always wanted to have children, I never thought someone else's parents would care about my family planning. She then noted it would be fun if my friend and I were both having kids at the same time, so our kids could have playdates together. I believe part of this worldview comes from having older parents. While my parents aren't asking me, I still feel pressure to have kids soonNow that I've been married for two years, I'm starting to feel emotionally ready to think about having children. Because my parents put their careers first, they hardly ever ask me about having children.

While each approach has its benefits, Dutch kids are consistently ranked as the happiest in the world. Based on my research as a psychologist and experience raising two young daughters, here are six things Dutch parents never do:1. It's very common to see Dutch kids run free on the playground without too much supervision. Dutch parents make a point to have at least one meal together every day. Dutch children are consistently given a clear daily schedule that allows for plenty of naps for the little ones and prioritizes stability.

Two and a half years after Roni Dagan's husband died, she and her seven-year-old son, Gal, found solace in places far from home. Of her son Gal, Roni Dagan said: "It was difficult when he was younger, but … he's now super easy to travel with." It's a demographic Boundless Life hasn't specifically targeted, yet the trips — which include accommodations, coworking spaces, and schooling — are resonating with single moms and single dads. And that has to do with being a single mom, because [traditional] families stick together, and single moms are kind of left out," she said.

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — Last November, at about midnight, Omid was lying in bed in his new home in Cape Elizabeth, Maine — exhausted, but unable to sleep. On this night, and on many nights during Omid's first few months in Maine, Nasir was soon at his door. Omid's family arrived in Maine just before Halloween in 2021 and recently celebrated one year in Maine. Catholic Charities, the local refugee-resettlement organization in Maine, was working with Omid's family to help them resettle. After Omid's family escaped Kabul, members of his extended family came by to collect some of their more precious items, and gave other things away.

Babies born into Covid-related lockdowns have taken longer to reach certain developmental milestones than babies born pre-pandemic, a study found. The results were based on a questionnaire given to parents of 309 babies in Ireland during the pandemic. In January, researchers at Columbia University found that babies born in New York City from March to December 2020 had less developed motor and social skills by six months than babies born between November 2017 and January 2020. Contrary to the other observed trends, the researchers in Ireland found that 97% of pandemic babies were able to crawl at 1 year compared to 91% of babies born earlier. Her team will continue to observe the same babies to see how their communication skills change by age 2, or perhaps even older.
